Internal exams and portfolios - dates and conditions
Important information concerning written exams and credit points can be found here: (Infoblatt Leistungsnachweis, PDF; in German only).
General terms:
For courses assessed with an exam, the exam is held in the final course session. You need to register for it during the course. The results will be communicated by e-mail, along with the dates for exam inspection.
Courses evaluated by a final exam
Failure to attend exam (registration for resit)
In case you cannot sit the exam on the date given (a studies-related reason for absence needs to be submitted to the director in written form), you can write the exam at the next given date at the end of the following semester.
If all three of the following three conditions apply, you may take an alternative test:
- You are not able to attend the exam for reasons related to your studies.
- You want to earn credit points by writing the exam.
- You plan to attend the follow-up course in the next semester.
The alternative test consists of:
- An essay (30 minutes; minimum 150 words), to be written in the Language Centre; the topic is assigned by the lecturer, and
- an oral exam (approx. 15 min.) with the lecturer on this topic.
You will receive a grade for each part of the alternative test and have to pass each of them individually. Permission to take an alternative exam is given by the director (please contact Petra.Gekeler@unibas.ch). The test is held at the latest in the first course week of the following semester.
Failed exams (registration for resit)
In case you fail the exam on the given date and want to attend the follow-up course in the subsequent semester, you must arrange for an alternative test (see above) in order to obtain credit points. If you do not intend to do the follow-up course but want to acquire credit points, you will have to wait until the end of the following semester and resit the exam then.
The following scale applies to the grading of the exams:
<59.9% fail
60-67% 4
67.1-75% 4.5
75.1-83% 5
83.1-91% 5.5
91.1-100% 6
Courses evaluated by a portfolio
In portfolio courses, all parts of the portfolio have to be submitted by the end of the course. Late submission of any parts or of corrections after this deadline is not possible.
